In the QRC
FRONT DESK
• Schedule open from 9am-7pm for fall term, typical shift length is 2 hours.
• Contact Mel (Volunteer Coordinator) for scheduling and shift availability.
RESOURCE WALL
• Check that the brochures and pamphlets are up to date on the resource wall in the entrance of the center and the front desk resource binder. If unsure, contact pamphlet organization or group. Check the front door and events calendar on the corkboard in the lounge for out-of-date materials.
• Organize/tidy existing info.
• If possible, pick-up new pamphlets and brochures from community and campus orgs.
Volunteer Positions
PINK GALLERY CURATOR
• Program art shows for the Pink Gallery located at the QRC.
• Promote queer and ally artists.
• Re-envision space.
• Schedule calendar of gallery shows and openings.
• Talk to Beth (Administration and Publicity Coordinator) for details.
Events
QUEER SQUARE DANCE
(September 24, Park Blocks)
• Represent and promote the QRC by handing out fliers and talking to new and returning students.
• Tear down and/or event set-up.
TABLING
• Welcome Week (September 20-24).
SPECTRUM
About
• The QRC, as well as members of SAGE, will be hosting a prospective student orientation called Spectrum in January 2011.
Preparation
• Participant recruitment at local high schools. Tasks include: contacting local schools and GSAs and QSAs to talk about the project, schedule and conduct presentations and distribute fliers promoting the event.
Day of
• 1 on 1 mentoring and orienting of new and prospective students.
• Speakers and presenters (ideally folks from the QSA, QPOC and other related groups).
BRIGAYDE
About
• A practicum and volunteer program to bridge the queer and ally campus population with other student groups and organizations on campus that historically have little queer visibility.
Current Tasks
• Research events during the academic year (SALP, Student Unions etc.) for the briGAYde to attend.
• Start a briGAYde calendar and input potential events.
Writing/Research Projects
NEWSLETTER
• Research community and campus events to promote in the QRC weekly newsletter and in the center.
• Forward info. to Beth @ betholsondesign@yahoo.com
GRANT RESEARCH
• Start a spreadsheet with information, including due dates, for grants applicable to the QRC in areas such as technology/equipment, programming, events, and outreach.
GLITTERBOMB ADVERTISING
• Create an advertising campaign for the QRC. For example: file QRC bookmarks in books throughout the library, make a poster or handbill promoting queer visibility on campus, come up with your own idea!
SPEAKERS BUREAU UPDATE
• Review and edit both Bridges Manual and Bridge’s Facilitator Manual for the new practicum program: The Speakers Bureau. (Talk to Mel for location of files).
HEALTHCARE ON CAMPUS
• Create Gender Resources Guide with PSU resources. (Talk to Cat (Center Coordinator) for location of OSU forms as a model and Smitty (Trans Student Resources) for further instruction).
